Auction: "Rose of Sharon"

"Rose of Sharon", Oil on Panel, 6" x 6.5"

"Rose of Sharon" Work in Progress

We have several Rose of Sharon border plants that were left by the people who lived in our house before us.  I painted this study from life using a clipping from one of the plants.  In the future, I'm planning on painting larger-scale still life paintings of the flowers left by the previous owners.  To me it's a sign that their spirits live on while they are no longer physically with us.  If you would like to bid on this painting, click here.

Auction: "Pretty in Pink"

"Pretty in Pink", Oil on Panel, 6" x 6"

This is an oil sketch of a pink petunia that was happily growing in my mother's garden.  Her petunias are so big and lush-looking that I had to paint one of the flowers.  If you would like to bid on this painting, click here.

Auction: "Simple Pleasures"

"Simple Pleasures", Oil on Linen, 8"x 6"

I drink at least 3 cups of coffee a day.  I can't start my day without a cup and I like to have one after every meal.  While I'm painting, I might also take a coffee break to help me gather my thoughts and to rest my eyes for a bit.  This coffee cup was set-up in a room with north facing light on a fairly overcast day.  I tried to capture some of the reflections on the cup as the sun came out.  This painting is varnished, framed and ready to hang on a wall.  It costs $250 and is currently hanging at the Lyme Art Association.  If you would like to purchase this painting, please email me or call the Lyme Art Association: 860-434-7802.    I

Opening Reception:" August Light: Summer Painting and Sculpture

"Popping into Bloom", Oil on Linen, 30" x 24"

"Popping into Bloom" Work in Progress
My husband and I both have four paintings in the Summer Exhibit at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme Connecticut.  The Opening Reception is on Friday, August 8th from 6-8pm.  If you're local, join us for a night of art, music and refreshments.

I recently completed the above painting for the Exhibit. In this painting, I used a dark background to make the lighter colors stand out.  For the flowers, I used saturated color underneath and scumbled thin layers of lighter-colored paint to achieve the effect of transparency.
